In a group with Mehnaz Mahaboob, we were given the challenge to design a museum piece that would be interactive but also teach members of the public something about mechanics and engineering. Using SolidWorks, we designed a book that explained several different types of gearing. Each page had a different type of gearing, explaining the different uses each type of gearing has, with a practical example inside the page, allowing the user to spin the gears watching how each gear moves and interacts with the next gear. We used a laser cutter to cut all the various pieces.
